Welcome to our Digital Heritage Collection!

The Beverly Public Library's Digital Heritage collection presents historical photographs, postcards, oral histories, yearbooks, and books relating to the history of our community.

Beverly, originally part of Salem and the Naumkeag Territory, was first settled in 1626 by Roger Conant, and incorporated in 1894. Along with many other cities and towns north of Boston, Beverly is important both to maritime and to industrial history.

Known by some as the "birthplace" of the American Navy, Beverly produced the first ship, the Hannah, ever commissioned by the U.S. military. Beverly is also home to the country's first cotton mill, built in the late 18th century. In the early twentieth century, the United Shoe Machinery Company was developed in Beverly and provided thousands of jobs for the next 85 years.
