"Dear Flora, we can't come down tomorrow, and I am so disappointed! I thought by this time we could go if you met, but Herbert says the road isn't fit for me to ride over, and we have help now too. We are still sugaring. Are you? Shall be so glad when its ends, it has dragged so this year. Please tell Mrs. Chase I am disappointed, for she wrote me this week, and I thought I could celebrate my birthday too. Are your hens laying yet? I hope they are. Was glad to get your card.
