The photographs in this collection come from two main sources: the Cape Ann Vertical Files, located in the Local History area, is a collection of file folders containing information about Gloucester and Cape Ann; and photographs taken for or by the library staff to document library events.

The 1764 building was acquired by Samuel Sawyer in 1884 to house the library. |
The library expanded with a large addition. |
The library is currently undergoing a total renovation of the 1976 structure and a 14,000 sq ft new addition. |
